Product Description
BackOFF™ XP Brake Light Module
Help Following Drivers Notice When You Are Slowing or Stopped
The Signal Dynamics BackOFF™ XP Brake Light Module automatically flashes your motorcycle’s existing brake light to help attract and maintain the attention of following drivers during braking.
Unlike many vehicles equipped with dedicated center high-mounted brake lights, motorcycles often rely on smaller rear lighting systems that can be easier to overlook in traffic, bright sunlight, or moments of driver distraction.
The BackOFF™ XP is designed to make your motorcycle’s brake light significantly more noticeable by adding your choice of two attention-getting flash patterns during braking.
Compatible with:
- LED brake lights
- incandescent brake lights
- combination LED/incandescent systems
No load equalizers required.
Two Selectable Flash Patterns
Mode 1
Causes the brake light(s) to emit:
- 5 short flashes
- followed by 4 seconds of steady illumination
This sequence automatically repeats itself continuously for as long as the brakes remain applied.
Mode 1 is ideal for riders who want maximum ongoing visibility while stopped in traffic or waiting at intersections.
Mode 2
Causes the brake light(s) to emit:
- 5 rapid flashes
- followed by steady brake light illumination
After the initial flash sequence, the brake light remains steadily illuminated for as long as braking continues.
Mode 2 is ideal for riders who prefer an initial attention-getting alert followed by a more traditional steady brake light appearance.
Multiple Brake Light Systems
If your motorcycle has multiple brake lights positioned above and below each other, Mode 1 and Mode 2 can both be used together on separate brake lights to create a much more dynamic and attention-getting lighting effect.
Designed to Gain and Maintain Attention
The BackOFF™ XP flash patterns were specifically selected for their ability to attract and maintain the attention of following drivers without appearing random or erratic.
Many state driver handbooks recommend briefly flashing brake lights when slowing or stopping to help alert following traffic. The BackOFF™ XP automatically performs this function every time the brakes are applied.
Simple Installation
The BackOFF™ XP installs inline with your motorcycle’s existing brake light wiring.
IMPORTANT:
Your motorcycle’s brake light wire must be cut in two and the module installed inline with the cut brake light wire.
One side of the cut brake light wire will lead toward the front of the motorcycle and the other side will lead toward the rear brake light(s). The module is installed between these two wire ends.
Basic installation includes:
- locating the brake light wire
- cutting the brake light wire
- connecting the module inline
- selecting your preferred flash mode
- mounting the module using the included adhesive pad
Compatible with most 12VDC motorcycle electrical systems.
Wiring Connections
Black Wire
Connect to a ground wire.
Red Wire
Connect to the brake light wire leading toward the front of the motorcycle.
This wire receives power from the brake switch.
Choose ONE Output Mode Below
(Cap off unused output wire)
White Wire / Red Stripe — Mode 1 Output
Connect to the brake light wire leading toward the rear brake light(s).
Red Wire / White Stripe — Mode 2 Output
Connect to the brake light wire leading toward the rear brake light(s).
Optional Hazard Flasher Feature
The optional yellow wire can be used to add a brake light hazard flasher feature for motorcycles that do not already have factory hazard flashers.
To use this feature:
- connect the yellow wire through a toggle switch (not included)
- connect the switch to a fused 12V+ power source
When the switch is turned on, the brake light will continuously flash as a hazard flasher.
This feature is completely optional and does not need to be connected for normal brake light module operation.
Solid-State Reliability
The BackOFF™ XP features:
- solid-state electronic operation
- compatibility with LED and incandescent lighting
- compact anodized aluminum housing
- heat and vibration resistance
- water-resistant construction
No external flashers or load equalizers required.

easy install
Very easy simple install. Not that I'm selling another manufacturer's product for them, but my bike only has a single light in the back. So after the install of the BackOFF XP I also installed a Putco Plasma LED 1157R bulb, replacing the stock 1157 incandescent. The bulb is amazingly bright. The BackOFF XP and that bulb make a great winning team. I will certainly be noticed when I hit the brakes now!

Easy
Don't make it complicated......study the drawing and then execute. One thing to help people out is to understand the electrical wiring on the bike. That is the hardest part of getting this up and functioning, Hint: mount under the seat.

Excellant product!
A very effective signal device that is easy to install. I have had three bikes and each one of them received a "Back Off". Recommend all Motorcycle owners to invest in this very good safety product.

BackOFF Products Rock!
This isn't my first BackOFF module - my wife likes 'em on all of her bikes. Here's the story behind this particular unit. On a popular motorcycle parts retailer's website, this unit's fitment information said it was compatible with her trike - a 2016 H-D Freewheeler. When I received the unit from SignalDynamics and reviewed the wiring instructions I discovered that it wasn't actually recommended for the trike's lighting setup. That's because of the integrated turn signals. A quick call to Signal Dynamics confirmed. BUT... they pointed out that if the trike was equipped with a center brake light - similar to some TourPack setups - I might want to use it on that circuit. A few minutes with a soldering iron and some shrink-wrap tubing was all it took to install. Down here in Florida rear-enders are the second most frequent cause of bikers getting hurt - or worse. This product, while no substitute for situational awareness, can help. Stay safe out there, folks!

Another FANTASTIC product!!!!
I recently purchased the brake light module for my Yamaha Venture. After opening the package the instructions made the installation completely effortless. I finished and exited onto the roadway. My eighbor was behind me. I saw him the next day and all he could saw was wow. He said that whatever I did made my motorcycle 100% more visible by having the stop light flashing as I stopped. A bit of history. Thisss is my 11th motorcycle. Two ended in the salvage yard. My current motorcycle has 179,000 miles on it and has been on its side twice. Once from a guy who ran a stop stign and the second because the guy rear ended me. I believe now this along with the headlight flasher will make me alot more visible.

Works great
Slipped right in under seat and flashes great. Great eye-catcher to avoid getting rear ended on my bike.

Functionality is decent
I got my garage to install this for me using option 2 (5 pulses and then steady on). Would be nice if the device flashed faster, perhaps it will if I install an LED it may flash faster? Would be nice also if you can simply just wire it one way, then have an actual switch on the device to switch between modes. Now if I want to switch it to option 1, I'd have to rewire it, which would be an inconvenience. But in the end, it does what it was designed to do well. I just think the next generation should be enhanced as I indicated. Also it's very small and light which is on the plus side.
