RE: Noncompliance Notification Letter

Dear Diamond Star Headlight Module owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Signal Dynamics Corporation has decided that the Diamond Star Headlight Module fails to conform with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, paragraph S7.9 (Motorcycle headlamp modulation system). In cooperation with the United States Department of Transportation, Signal Dynamics Corporation is voluntarily recalling all 01010 & 01012 Headlight modules sold since January 1, 2001.

There are two conditions the user may select that would cause the module to be non-compliant.

1. If the control switch is placed in the "nova" mode during the day the headlight will modulate at 480 cycles per minute which is 200 cycles per minute above the maximum of 280 allowed by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.
2. If the module was connected to the horn system of the bike, and the horn is pressed after dark the module will cause the headlight to modulate for 3 seconds. Per the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard the headlight may not modulate after dark. This could distract oncoming traffic and may result in a vehicle crash.

Signal Dynamics will make available a kit, which will include all instructions and hardware needed to make the module compliant at no charge. In addition you may request to have the kit installed by an authorized dealer at no cost to you by calling (800) 785-1814. A copy of the instructions to make the module compliant are included with this letter.

Completing steps 3 and 4 will disable the nova mode; which allows the module to modulate at 480 cycles per minute. After this modification the module will modulate at 240 cycles per minute when the switch is in the nova mode.
